Eight years separate the day in which the team of the businesswoman Maria Li Bao began her research to rescue the secular recipes of the Chinese imperial kitchen to introduce them in the sophisticated restaurant China Crown, located on the ground floor of the Casa Calvet, in l' Eixample of Barcelona.
The proposal of the restaurant is to offer dishes that 400 years ago were exclusive to the emperor and his courts. For that the chef Tim Wang traveled all corners of the old empire to recover the forgotten recipes and rediscover original ingredients. The result of the effort is a very varied set menu that features dishes that represent each region that used to be part of the Chinese Empire. Diners can choose the Silk Road set menu or the Pato Imperial Box or select the dishes on the set menu.
The decoration, designed by the architect Aurora Gamez, creates an exquisite space that has several objects from China as lamps with textile screens, a subtle double mirror, porcelain vases, dinnerware and imperial suits perfectly harmonized with the lattice girders and palastro , the Catalan vaulted ceilings, the splendid stained glass windows and the oak cabinetry created by the genius Gaudí.
Dishes: Cassava bombs stuffed with slightly spicy veal. Stew of Iberian secret in oil of chilli peppers and soy gratin with crunchy tupinambos. Picantón Kung Pao roasted with chilli peppers and cashew nuts with classic kung pao sauce. Hot chocolate cake with red bean sorbet and raspberry.
